People Resourcing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

People Resourcing - Essay ExampleDifferent organisations become different ways of allocating avocations and responsibilities to their workers. In many instances, the manufacturing process of a community allow for be split into separate tasks that can be carried out by a second of employees. work job responsibilities will allow organisational managers to match employees with tasks that are based on their competencies. This allows for employees to be able to focus on their particular areas of expertise. For instance, a corporation ought to employ engineers to carry out any design responsibilities and business experts cater to promotional aspects instead of giving more than responsibilities to the present workers who might have some small talent in any of these areas. The law of comparative advantage verifies that this specialisation will end up yielding a higher output than would be achieved if the company used the existing workers to carry out these extra tasks. With special ise job assignment, every worker is trained to finish just wizard basic function. This is much more cost effective than would be the case if all the workers were trained to be able to work efficiently in more than one task. For example, if a corporation has need of an engineer and a semi good worker for tasks at the production line, specialised, in contrast to broad task assignment gives the company the casualty to employ one partially skilled worker and one engineer (Von Krogh, 2003). With broad task allocation, the tuition level needed is typically of the highest level. Therefore, it will be more expensive for the corporation to employ deuce employees with college degrees than just one. Specialised task assignment is more cost effective than broad task assignment. Specialised task assignments have just one impediment are. This is the fact that they do not retain the noesis used in some of the creative processes included in the process of manufacturing a product. For instance , if a companys engineers have to plan for and stool a new copier but do not take part in the production and advertising functions, they will not have the necessary feedback to create successful merchandise. This feedback will be traduced in consumers needs and future market opportunities. In addition, if just one employee is responsible for the assemblage, it is a presumable thing that a worker will conduct his or her job with less care than if there were other workers. Also, to cut coordination costs, the functions of specialised workers have to be corresponding. For example, a tighten can establish the procedures as well as methods needed to process a definite keep down of products in a given period of time so that technicians can make use of the aforementioned(prenominal) procedures to make other products. This calls for good coordination to exist between various product units. An organisations managers as well have to ensure that the workers remain focused on their specif ic functions instead of the overall function of ensuring that the goods they draw are sold. For instance, the performance of the production division of a company could be assessed on the basis of the number of manufactured units, while the marketing divisions performance might be based on the number of transactions made but if the quality of the goods is compromised, the sales numbers will begin to origin even though the marketing divisions performance stays high. The second and third world countries show the presence of feed citizens but they also have cases of obesity or overn utrition. Changes in the rates of overnutrition in different countries can be due to several factors. This may be due to societal changes such as greater food consumption and genetic adaptations that impact metabolism. Therefore, lifestyle and technological changes have adverse effects with the nutrition of the people. In the book entitled Competitive Advantage by Jaynie Smith, she stated that there is an increasing bespeak for people to eat levelheaded food. Cycle of Photon Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Cycle of Photon - Essay ExampleA photon exudes particle-wave duality, hence has both characteristics of both a particle and a wave. It is of negligible mass and does not have electric charge. It has double states of polarization and crowd out be described by three arguments. These arguments be wave vector comp binglents, wavelength and direction in which it is propagated. A photon moves with the speed of light in empty space and its energy is affected by momentum and vector. A photon is among some of the rarest particles that are identical to their antiparticles, in this case, antiphoton. Photon is a generalised term used to explain the electromagnetic spectrum in the range of infrared (IR) radiation to visible light. Transition in the nucleus A photon is one particle that is able to transition in the nucleus of an atom. Though motion is limited in the nucleus, a photon is able to change from one position to another. It is at the nucleus that the energy of an atom is found. Howeve r, it is essential to name here that the form of the photon is not changed even though its speed is very mellowed owing to the high level of energy in the nucleus. It moves along with angular momentum that is not dependent on its frequency. The cistron measured along its direction of motion, herein referred to as helicity, and must be an integer of the planks constant, denoted as h. orbitual polarization states of the photon are derived from the two helicities described above, either positive or negative of planks constant. Motion of a photon gives rise to energy being produced and hence law of conservation of momentum must come into play. preservation of momentum with reference to a photon is withal referred to as transitional invariance and requires that more than two photons are created having null momentum. A large sized photon has effects on the nucleus of an atom. Though said to be massless, its effects sternnot be overlooked. A photon could alter Coulombs law and there would be extra degrees of freedom for electromagnetic fields. Energy levels An atom has a varied number of energy levels also referred to as energy states. In each of these energy levels, electrons oscillate with vibrations and thus produce energy. The number of electrons in each energy level increases as the distance from the nucleus increases. The greater the distance, the higher the energy emitted. A photon is emitted when an electron happens to move from a higher energy level to a lower energy level. The wavelength of the photon is the same(p) as the distance mingled with the two energy levels. This photon emitted has energy and this directly proportionate to frequency and Planks constant but inversely proportional to its wavelength. The energy emitted by a photon is not dependent much on its mass since its mass is close negligible though it is known that all matter has mass and occupies space. However, it is imperative to note that photons exhibit the same behaviour regardle ss of the energy level they are emitted by the transiting electrons. They travel at the same stop number even if moving from high energy level to lower energy level and the velocity can vary in over ten orders of magnitude from the lowest energies of radio waves to the powerful waves of gamma radiation. Photons are usually depicted as packets that carry energy with them though the energy in the packets is discrete. If the photons are travel as a beam, intensity of such a beam depends on the number of photons per second. Light is also described as

He owed them the trust to agree sure that the company is operated with their benefits in mind, and that it seeks to bring value to their investment. The shareholders needed intelligible disclosures which could be understood by even a lay person without the use of any specialized expert, or possession of an mature degree as it is the duty of the chairman to make sure that they get such kind of information (Brenkert & Beauchamp, 2010). A consequentialist approach would have enable Lay to make significant ethical decision that would not have seen the shareholders value crumple. Notably, he owed them the duty to come up with adequately-designed controls measures, and provision of attentive oversight that would have stop ped some of his employees from pushing the limits of their investments. Lay should instead have provided the shareholders with information that could help them to maximize their vengeance and at the same time minimize harms. He had the duty to net balance good outcomes over the bad consequences for the shareholders. Based on non-consequentialism theory, Ken Lay had a fiduciary obligation to progress Enron shareholders interests exclusively. Lay obligation to shareholders was to avoid and preclude harming their investment in the company by observing pertinent laws of the company and regulatory standards. As a leader entrusted by the shareholders to oversee the operations of Enron, he had the obligation of adding value to the corporation and contributing to the ethical success of Enron. Instead, Lay negated on his priority of re-establishing investor confidence (Mulgan,

Estoppel in the Contract Law - Case cartoon ExampleThe principle of promissory estoppel is that if someone makes a promise, which an other(a) person acts on, the promisor is estopped from going pole on the promise, even though the promise does not provide consideration. This modern doctrine of promissory estoppel is ground on the dicta of Denning J. In Central London Property Trust Ltd V. High Trees post Ltd ( 1949) 1 KB 130 and also on the decision of the House of Lords in Tool Metal Manufacturing Co Ltd V. westward galvanic Co Ltd (1955) 1 WLR 761. This doctrine can be traced to Hughes V. Metropolitan Railway (1877) 2 APP CAS 437.The requirements of promissory estoppel are1. Contractual/Legal Relationship. There should be a contractual or legal relationship. 2. Promise. In addition, on that point should be a clear and unambiguous statement by the promisor that his strict legal rights will not be enforced, i.e. one party must make a promise which is to be binding. The Scaptrad e 1983 QB 529. However, it can be implied or made by conduct as in the Hughes Case (1877).3. Reliance. Further, there should be reliance on the part of the promisee, i.e. he should have acted on the reliance of the promise. Lord J Denning ruled that it was sufficient if the debtor acted on the promise by paying a lower sum. In this connection he also said, he must have been led to act differently from what he otherwise would have done. (Lord Denning, Alan Co Ltd V. El Nasr Export & Import Co (1972) 2 QB 189). 4. Inequitable to Revert. It is deemed cheating(prenominal) if the promisor goes back on his promise and reverts to his strict legal rights. A promise obtained by illicit pressure can be broken. D&C Builders being in severe financial difficulties was continually, printing press for payment. Finally, Mrs Rees told the company that she w ould pay them only 300 as full settlement or else nothing. She took this stance later coming to know of the financial difficulties being envisaged by the company. The company reluctantly accepted this amount and later sued Mrs Rees for the balance amount. The Court of Appeal held that the company was entitled to succeed. In his judgment, Lord Denning was of the view that it was not unfair for the creditors to go back on their word and claim the balance as the debtor had acted inequitably by exerting improper pressure. (D & C Builders v Rees (1965) 2 QB 617).5. Shield or Sword. In Coombe V. Coombe (1931) 2 KB 250, it was find that this doctrine may raised for defence purposes and not as the basis of a case, in other words it can be used as a shield and not as a sword. 6. Extinctive or Suspensive of Rights.Another question raised by this doctrine is whether it extinguishes rights or suspends them. The concerned administration are in favour of suspending the rights, which can be re vived by giving reasonable strike off or by changing conditions. In Tool Metal Manufacturing Co Ltd v Tungsten Electric Co Ltd 1955 1 WLR 761 - Patent owners promised to suspend periodic payments of compensation due to them from manufacturers from the outbreak of war. Three Paintings of the Baroque Period Essay Example for Free

Three Paintings of the Baroque Period EssayThree whole shebang of artparticularly picturethat was produced during the Baroque period of the 17th century, includes the scene of Alonso Cano (1652) entitled The Dead the Nazarene Supported by an Angel the work of art produced by Francisco de Zurbaran (1660) entitled The Painter in the lead savior Crucified as well as the painting done by Juan de Valds Leal (1661) entitled savior Bearing the Cross. The way they demoed the suffering of the Nazarene has something to do with their philosophy, as well as the nature of their environment. Main Body The first painting done by Alonso Cano (1652) entitled The Dead deliveryman Supported by an Angel portrays the spirit of Christ after His death on the Mount of Calvary. This painting shows the spirit of Christ, sitting on a rock with his typeface down and an angel standing and reinforcement His shoulders. The color of the sky tells that it is sunrise, and mountains are be shown with a road and a bush that are illuminate by the light. On the ground, at the right side of His feet, is a basin of water, where light is also being reflected. Expressing the Baroque style, this painting uses emotion as well as ambiguity, as Cano (1652) uses subtle and rounded forms, with compatible color in that target also be described as subtle. It uses Tenebrism, with juicy colors and tones, and sunglasses that can be described as coloured. The second painting done by Francisco de Zurbaran (1660) entitled The Painter Before Christ Crucified shows a painter who is standing right in battlefront of the cross, looking upward, with an idealizing expression, at the face of Christ. His right hand is on the middle front of his chest, and his left hand holds some kind of a red rose that is partly subdued in darkness. With the black approveground, there is plainness, grace, as well as mystery in the way Zurbaran (1660) portrayed the two beings. There is intensity and naturalism in the colors and shades that were apply. Although the picture appears to be realistic in form with a bit of parallelism in the lines and shapes, the two bodies glow in the dark, without much precision on where the light comes from. The art uses Tenebrism, using dark shades and tones, and with obscure implications that form an emotional sense of a drama. It shows both the excellence and imperfection of the military man sight (Web Gallery of Art, n.d.). Lastly, the painting entitled Christ Bearing the Cross done by Juan de Valds Leal (1661) portrays Christ while carrying His cross. With a dramatic pattern of the fount, a muscular man at His left whips Him down, while at the right side behind Him are the weeping women of Jerusalem. In front of Him, at His left side, is a high priest standing and with an expression that is solemn and contented. At the back are two soldiers, rocks, and a treewith a background that is dark, obscure, and gloomy. The style is Baroque, as it uses dark colors, shades, and tones, with an obscure implication and a sense of drama attached to the painting. However, it can also be an earlier representation of Romanticism (Web Gallery of Art, n.d.), as it uses dynamic and impetuous forms, colors, and shades, with a touch of violence, energy, and the use of the asymmetry. Colors used are dark and morose. To define the painters form of art is to define the trends and their philosophies of art. During the time of Cano (1652), his life in Andalusia, Spain brought him to the religious, Christian culture, where beliefs in Christ and the Bible make him express love and beauty by using shades and colors that dwell in harmony. He expressed the suffering Christ in a scene that has already finished the tragic part of the death and the suffering. He dwelt more on the beauty of Christ by using subdueder colors and forms, and a tranquil shade of light. His expression of the need for harmony, smooth blending, beauty, and a naturalistic exertion may have be en due to the event that Andalusia was experiencing some migratory trends from the Muslim (Andalusian people, n.d.). Having been witnessed personally how Muslims were forcibly expelled from their homeland, he rather focused on the serenity after the death and suffering of Christ especially that Christ Himself was expelled by His own people. As for Zurbaran (1660), he lived in Estremadura, Portugal, and learned to portray effects that are natural, austere, with certain simplicity and a grace that clearly revealed his emotions. The purity that is shown in his paintings may have been a personal longing for peace and harmony especially that, at the time the painting was done, The Battle of the Lines was occurring between Spain and Portugal (Battle of the lines of Elvas, n.d.)As seen in the painting, Zurabaran (1660) is seen to be alone with Christ. The whole scene is covered in black probably to cover all evil and violence that were taking place within the area. As he was experiencing an inner crisis (Web Gallery of Art, n.d.), which internally made him wish for a miracle and a blessing, he focused, rather, on Christ as the sole savior of the world. Lastly, when it comes to Valdas Leal (1661), his being Spanish at a time when his country was becoming less and less powerful made way for expressions of pessimism, boldness, and vigor that made his painting dark, violent, and morose. That time of Spain was full of wars, difficulties, and crisis yet it was only the beginning of Spains exertion. As a result, Valdas Leal (1661) depicted the suffering of Christ at a time when His suffering is just head start to get worse and the cross is becoming heavier with each step.Colors portray dark and gloomy shades and patterns that restate wars, conflicts, and violence of the age. The weeping women in the painting show the middle class, who were usually the sufferers of the community. The high priest, on the other hand, portrays the Church that did not really experience much of the difficulties. Obscurity may be the effect of a confused emotion. Conclusion The portrayal of a painting has something to do with both the philosophy of the artist and the nature of the surrounding environment. Despite the similarity of the theme, each painter has his or her own way of expressing the subject. ground on what the painter would want to focus on, or how he or she would want to portray the event or emotion, philosophy and environment reflect the finished product that is solely unique, majestic, and from within.ReferencesAndalusian people. Psychology counseling is a field of psychology focusing on the personal and interpersonal working(a) and on the emotional, fond and health related issues of individuals and groups of people. This paper addresses issues arising from interaction of people with differences culture and deportments. It also focuses on criminal investigation process in the psychological perspective. Key words psychopathology, personality, demeanoral therapy, individualistic, renewingDiversity and Cross-Cultural Differences in Workplaces Every individual is characterized by a unique pattern of thoughts, behaviors and feeling that post to individuals psychological structure. Despite the fact that each individual is unique in personality resulting in diversity in peoples way of lives, people have always found themselves in crowds- be it in schools, places of worship, or any other social, political or economic gathering. Leininger and McFarland (2006) writes that the need to coexist in harmony compels persons to sometimes subordinate individual goals so that they enkindle accomplish the goals of a group. Those individuals who are not mentally ready to accept the cultural and personality diversity between differen t people a good deal find it challenging to coexist with others. Psychopathology has enabled counseling psychologist to understand the various aspects of ones mental structure including genetic and biological issues. Psychologists are able to identify people who undergo atypical or disordered development from those with normal or typical development. It is paramount for coworkers to be aware of their colleagues mental structure so as to contract in the overcompensate way with them. This is crucial for the creation and maintenance of a healthy and productive working environment that is composed of persons with diverse personalities. In such(prenominal) a set up where workplace colleagues have to cope with different personality traits, one may find it intemperately to maintain a stable mental behavior and physical emotions and may suffer from maladjustment in case one is in a new environment. Counseling psychologists help such persons to alleviate di centering and rectify th eir wellbeing (Woolfe Dryden, 1996). They also provide uncomplainings with assessment and cut acrossment of psychological issues. Through behavioral analysis, one is able to systematically analyze another persons or ones own behavior so as to know cause of indisputable behaviors and consequently improve social interaction. Bad behaviors can be corrected or good behaviors adopted or through behavioral therapy. This is a regularity that is used bypsychotherapists and psychiatrists to treat mood disorders an anxiety usually caused by variables such as social phobia, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and bipolar disorder. According to Lesilie (2008), behavioral treatment techniques includeRole playing, discussing about coping mechanisms, live and relaxation method, activities to promote focus, modifications to anger, pain or fear, social skills training, positive reinforcement. These methods focus on individuals shaping their behavior to cope with the environment. Whe n individuals with behavioral disorders try to change their behaviors to suit that filmd in the workplaces, they often find themselves fight to relate with the others and this leads to seclusion and isolation. On the other hand behavioral therapy should focus aiding individuals acquire control over their own behavior and blending it with the requirements of the workplace. This is important because one manipulates the environmentand learns to control their own behavior without compromising their personality which is vital for maximum productivity. With ones own personality, the reception of stimuli and the response is not touch and accordingly there are no negative consequences influencing the next occasion in the brain (Lesilie, 2008). Persons who find it hard to conform to workplace ethics due to cultural mismatches should set standards for assessing their own performance and hop on in behavioral therapy. Techniques such as self-management, self-control and self-regulation a re used to monitor ones progress (Woolfe Dryden, 1996). Behavioral modification procedures are not procedures to punish those people with different behaviors but they are techniques to detach non-conforming working behaviors and also facilitate cross-cultural brain. The make the workplace to feel better and builds a sense of satisfactory. For psychologists to offer the relevant advice to a person suffering from mental disorder, they must first find out the patients personality and understand how they think, feel, relate, influence and get influenced by others. For applied social psychologists to attend to a patient they must try to adopt the personality of the patient so that they can employ the best techniques to treat a patient without affecting the patients personality. In this perspective the psychologist is able to develop development strategies that are aimed at improve the important aspects, programs and policies for the patient to have a positive recovery. Psychologist s should aim at eliminating the negative perspective that a patient may have towards colleagues or the workplace. This is aimed at improving intercultural understanding and to offer a neutral platform where no culture is viewed as less or more important than the other. With cross-cultural understanding people volition tend to be more committed to working together improving productivity. Nevertheless, cultural competence is healthy for the growth of an organization that comprises of people from diverse cultures (Leininger McFarland, 2006). This should not be overshadowed by the tendency to express cultural superiority over others but should demonstrate the ability to effectively engage in cross-cultural dialogues without intimidating or negating another persons culture. This requires one to appreciate social psychology and be in a position to balance between positive and negative reprehension on another persons culture. Since not all people are equipped with the understanding o f social psychology, training on cultural competence should be conducted to avoid such problem from arising. some cultures are individualistic while others are communists and this play a big role in define how coworkers exist. This necessitates the need for effective cross-cultural team-building and training. As colleagues engage in affairs of the workplaces, each and every one of them is entitled to a certain opinion which one would like to support. If such a situation gets tense, certain body changes occur such as breathing rates and emotional changes if certain people are intimidating others for decisions to go their way. Such a phenomenon may result in one becoming irrepressible or violent. Biological psychology is concerned with balancingwhat the mind is processing and the effects it has on the body. It analyses how ones behaviors and thoughts are affected by the brain and neurotransmitters. Various neurotransmitters have different effects on the body. For instance, neurotr ansmitter dopamine is responsible for dejection and learning. Varying quantities of excess or too little of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the body results in disorders such as schizophrenia and Parkinsons disease respectively. (Woolfe Dryden, 1996).The comprehensive nature of bio-psychology encompasses diversity and cross-cultural aspects of an organization. A bio-psychologist will reconcile individuals or groups of people that are not in agreement resulting in abnormal behaviors. When addressing such a conflict a bio-psychologist figures out in which knowledge domain of bio-psychology the problem is. The following are the main areas of bio-psychology sensation and perception, emotion, learning and memory, motivated behavior and control of movement (Woolfe Dryden, 1996). Through these areas, bio-psychological problems and concerns are addressed. Another area of psychology is the forensic psychology an area that deals with the relationship between psychology and law. When a shame occurs, a criminal investigative process takes place in order to determine the offender, motive and to allow the right punishment if any to be given to the offender. The investigation involves investigative psychologist who explores the relationships between the offender and the nature of the crime that has been committed. The investigation process has the following major areas investigating the crime, gathering evidence, use of technology, search and seizure, arresting and charging the offender who may also undergo detention and interrogation (Simon, 2012). Throughout this process forensic psychologists are snarly as they help to establish a connection between an offender and the crimes committed. Essentially the forensic psychologist offers the following services during investigation process evaluating the risks of reoffending by the offender, child custody evaluation, recommending the length of the conviction to be turn over to the offender, competence evaluation and t estimony as an expert witness. Simon (2012) says that throughout this period from crime commission to when the sentence is passed, a forensic psychologist will engage with the suspected offended in an attempt to get appreciation on the motive behind the offence. In some cases, the offender may be suffering from a mental disorder and it is the duty of the psychologist to psychological expertise to provide analysis and recommendations in the criminal case. In addition a psychiatrics examination is required to determine whether the offender/suspect suffers from a mental distemper an opinion that is taken to be of very high value by the court since it might require the court to charge the offender as a mentally challenged person and this also influences the type of prison house the offender is to serve the sentence. In conclusion psychological is an aspects great and delicate influence on the diversity and cross cultural differences existing in workplaces. Coworkers should work towa rds enhancing intercultural understanding and acceptance.ReferencesLeininger, M.M. McFarland, R.M. (2006). Class Divided EssayWhen I first read the act a Class Divided the first thought that came to my mind was a nonher story about Blacks and W matches being separated. I re eithery had no idea that what I was about to catch out and read would be a admiting lesson wish well atomic number 53 I had never had before. exclusively to my surprise once I started schooling the article One Friday in April 1968 I knew that this was dismission to be different then any make passic I had read. So I allowed myself to fill what the writer was writing to try and fill what Jane Elliott had snarl that day in April in 1968. As she prepared to face a group of third grade students who take chancesed, to be white and teach them about racism and discrimination any(prenominal)thing she hoped they would take in the rest of their lives.Jane Elliott had taught her class about what the two things had mint before but not on the level she had planed to go to today she hoped that with what she was planning to do would not mean she had crossed the line to far, but if not her then who and if not then when. It was not whatever(a)thing that Jane Elliott could put off any longer. With the assassination of Rev Martin Luther King the night before this assignment was for certain not to be an easy task. Jane Elliott knew things would be different in class this morning But she was a women who knew in her heart what task laid before her and not quite sure how the outcome would be, or how or what response the children or their parents may have it was to late too turn around instantly. This was a situation that was going on all over the world not just in her townsfolk or in America. And it was time that nighwhat unrivaled brought right to the face of Americans children I mean who is the leaders of tomorrow but the children of today. And they might as well get a taste of the real world now really what could the worst that could happen? You might find out that even at that young age, s ome of them might even escort that racism and discrimination is something they never want to be a spot of or on the flip side you would have a bunch of racists running around it was beat out to make love now what kind of mint were being raised instead of finding out posterior when they get to old to even change. The technique that Jane Elliott used was very different then any I had heard about and since by the video I knew thither where no blacks in her class to see how she would divide the class I was very interested. And here white women a teacher from a shape town was allowing to put and idea a solution of an age old question of how to end discrimination. nearlything the nation had no solution to and countries and people were battling over everyday. How was this demonstration with kids going to change anything? Jane Elliott took a kick downstairs not just for wanting to teach students about racism and discrimination but teach it in a manner in which you as a person coul d actually feel acknowledge and understand the experience that they just went through to know how it feels to walk in an other man shoes.Jane wanted her students to understand that at the end of the day no wizard is superior or inferior to anyone else no effect what your status is in life. instantly I admit I had no idea how she was going to set out this difficult task and get the point across but as I continued to observe on, it was becoming clearer. When Jane Elliott started her class the following morning it started off I guess you could say any patricianprint class day would start the students seem to be as happy as the average 3rd grader would be. The normal inquisitive minds of most kids as the kids hung up there coast and put a focussing their come out and lunches away she started getting the kids in nightspot and as class started she asked them a question like did they know what were some of the things that do other people different from themselves and other white s.Some said size one said clothes but color was the one they all could agree on and so she asked them what where some of the skin colors that where different then their own? Blacks and sometimes they were called Negros and Indians. So she asked the kids and how did they think that people of other colors felt by feeling different about being different they said they felt that blacks did not feel as sharp by not being white, and they felt stupid because they were black. And so with that she asked them how they would fill if they were wrap uped different because of their color Now keep in mind this is the week of home(a) Brotherhood and you are suppose to treat your fellow mates with respect and love show them you wish because they are your brother. And Jane Elliott was about to do just the opposite. She asked them how would they fill if they where treated different because of the color they where now at first Im thinking how is this going too turn they are all white. But she told them that she was going to divide them up by the color of their eyes. Now for that day all people with raunchy eyes were going to be punter then the cook eyes and it was like immediately you seen a complete different reaction from the class, it was if these werent even the resembling kids the browned eye kids started to withdraw nigh immediately and the blue eyes were in full bloom. Some of the blue eyed kids even gave a solution on how Ms Jane should mucklele the brown eyed kids with a yard stick case they got out of hand. Now by lunch time the blue eyes felt on top of the world they told not to play with brown eyed kids and that they could have seconds on food the brown kids could not. Now for the brown eyes you could see the confusion on their faces the hurt they actually tried to rationalize how the same kids they had been friends with and played with change so much. And I remembered thinking how could in such(prenominal) a short dot of time could these sweet kids turn in to the ill monsters they has become. For me it was like if it took them such little time to embrace such a cruel sprite then I knew how it must be for grown people who economic consumption this kind of behavior for a long period of time how bitter and angry they must be not at the world but themselves. Now one of the scenes on the playground when the blue eyed boy taunts the brown eyed boys and they get into the brawl it hurt because before this experiment they were friends. And just in a couple of hours all there upbringing and brotherly love had went out the window. Now when Jane asked the boys what happen the blue eyed boy said it made him fill powerful and in charge? He said it made him fill like a king. The brown eyed boy to me on the hand seemed to be more than affected by what had happen at lunch he said he was hurt and they use to be friends that the eyes had nothing to do with it they had been friends and even though he hit the blue eyed boy it did not make him fill bette r.This made me see that even though this was the first time they had put a division among the students the lust for power emerged quickly in some with out hesitation and others went along with it because thats what they were told to do while again the brown eyed boy stood up for himself regardless of what the teacher said even though he admitted that he did not like being treated different and fighting did not make it better he just knew it was not fair. On returning back to class Ms Jane also noticed how the blue eyed kids were getting there work done faster and even being more helpful she noticed how the brown eyed kids looked like they where helpless and not really participating in class time you give out they felt rejected. It was as if had caught the essence of creating a bad situation but had the answer for straitening it out all was not lost. Jane announced to the that the roles had changed the following morning in class and believe me the blue eyes where not to happy with th e change this mint they would be on the bottom and the brown eyes were on top. Some kids did not want to do it anymore while others could not wait to be on top. What this showed me with kids is that they do as they see being done just as well as what they hear. When it was time to go back to being normal no more blue eyes no more brown eyes over all the kids seemed to be happy to return to the normal class setting she allowed the kids to sort what they like and hated better about it and in the end the all promised not to ever dislike somebody because of there skin color. When Jane Elliott did this same experiment in the jail there was a whole different reaction here the video was showed to the inmates not as a run but more as a teaching tool which I kind of understood discrimination is something that most of the prisoners had encountered some where along the way either in there or one of the reasons they where in jail in the first place. But she did use the correctional officers an d parole agents and I could not believe what was going on one man early on caught on that it must have been some kind of test because he notice the obvious brown eyes only signs blue eyes only signs lay situation while others tried very heard but it was this one lady she was a blue eye and a correctional officer she questioned and taunted everything that Jane wanted them to do prior to the blue eyes skirmish in the room with the brown eyed people she sort told them that the group of people entering were going to be rude loud dominant and disruptive once the seminar began. No one knew what was going on but she was setting the blue eye people to fail. She made them pissed in every way possible so about time the group was together it would seem that the blue eyed people were just as she described. Now the Lady with the blue eyes seemed to be the type of person that was comfortably irritated to start with her whole persona was if she was in charge and not Jane she answered questions with questions kept getting smart like she was going to be in charge no matter what it was her life and job were one in one and nobody was going to make her fill less she arrestled the inmates at work and that was how her personality came off as if she did not come second to anyone things went her way or no way and that there is only one right answer hers she became very annoying too me and she made me fill like some people In authority position now like its only their way that working does on like individuality love making people fill less in order for them to feel good about themselves. It seems if the other blue eyed people were willing to try and work out was being taught she kept a defensive block up all the time. Her behavior had begun to annoyed a lot of the people in the room including some blue eyes This also made me see how much easier it was for the children to grasp what was being taught more then the adults the kids were willing to say that how they were able to treat people even when they were told to do so if it mint treating them bad they did not like it. Of course for the one kid who felt like it gave him power. The correctional officer Acted, as if to admit that you are not better then the person next to you then there better then you. I think she had control issues me, personally fill that you can learn something new ever day if you are willing to learn you have good and bad I every race good and bad comes in some(prenominal) shapes and sizes. But if you be the best you can be treat people with kindness and respect you will get treated the same. As long as you know there are exceptions to all rules and some people are just not nice no matter what. But dont let that change who you are. Smile and somebody bound to smile back.

Having these feelings will cause depression, which means you cant control your thoughts. soiled thoughts will slowly harm the body causing study damage to the mind. in that location is no physician like cheerful thought for dissipating the ills of the body there is no comforter to study with goodwill for dispersing the shadows of grief and sorrow. To live continually in thoughts of ill-will, cynicism, suspicion, and envy, is to be confined in a successful prison-hole. But to think well of all, to be cheerful with all, and to patiently learn to find the good in all such unselfish thoughts are the very portals of heaven and to dwell day by day in thoughts of peace toward every creature will bring abounding peace to their possessor (Allen 12).You tiret need a doctor to tell you how to use your mind. You should be your own doctor, because you are the one controlling your thoughts. Positive thoughts will keep you away from the doctor. If you have corrupted thoughts, you are just jibe a whole for yourself (Cramer). If you have constant impure thoughts, the body will be under major stress. When the stress builds up so does all the impure thoughts. The body does not function efficiently with these impure ideas. Causing harm to the mind and body, one shall get rid of impure thoughts. They who have no cardinal inclination in their life fall an easy prey to petty worries, fears, troubles, and self-pitying, all of which lead, just as surely as deliberately planned sins (though by a different route), to failure, unhappiness, and loss, for weakness cannot persist in a power-evolving universe (Allen 14). People who wearyt know what to do in life will have impure thoughts. One who thinks of small problems will have major anxiety causing harm to the body. If you cant control your thoughts, little things will tend to bother you. Even though these problems are not major, it can lead you to bigger problems. These impure thoughts ill only lead you to failure. Having small problems on your mind will only cause you to think of more problems that you already have. When all the impure thoughts build up, it will be very difficult to have any pure thoughts in your mind. A man should conceive of a legitimate purpose in his heart, and set out to accomplish it. He should make this purpose the centralizing point of his thoughts. It may take the form of a spiritual ideal, or it may be a worldly object, according to his nature at the time being but whichever it is, he should steadily focus his thought forces upon the object which he has set before him.He should make this purpose his supreme duty, and should devote himself to its attainment, not allowing his thoughts to wander away into ephemeral fancies, longings, and imaginings (Allen 14). You are the one controlling yours thoughts. another(prenominal) person should not be the creator of yours thoughts. You should think deeply of your thoughts and not let them go to waste. The mind is very powerful and the thoughts are its artwork. You should take your time in making a great section of artwork. If your thoughts are impure, the art will come out with dark colors. If your thoughts are pure, your art will come out with extravagant colors. You should have a legitimate purpose for your ideas. Once a great thought has come to you, you should set forth and try to accomplish it. Thoughts are just in your head if you dont do anything about it. The important part is accomplishing your pure thoughts. With great accomplishments comes a great thought. A man can only rise, conquer, and achieve greatnes s by uplifting his thoughts. Thinking positive is very important because it gives you a sense of direction. If a person has negative thoughts, they usually wont come up with many pure thoughts. Negative thinking can harm the body and mind to look at the downside of things. Positive thinking on the other hand, is essential to pure ideas. A positive thinker has a pathway to pure ideas. You cannot achieve a lot of things with negative thinking. Men will remain weak, and abject, and detestable by refusing to lift up his thoughts. The body is nothing without the mind. Our mind is the creator of our thoughts. Whether our thoughts are pure or impure our body does not function properly without our mind.To sustain a healthy lifestyle, one should have pure thoughts. Your body is not healthy if your thoughts are not pure. Strong, pure, and happy thoughts build up the body in vigor and grace. The body is a delicate and plastic instrument, which responds readily to the thoughts by which it is im pressed, and habits of thought will produce their own effects, good or bad, upon it (Allen 12). Impure ideas will only cause harm to the body. Impure thoughts lead the body to undergo stress, which leads to disease. One should not worry so much because harm will come to the ones who worry most.Anxiety will only cause harm, and ruin your positive thoughts. Having pure ideas is important to staying healthy. The Russian Civil War Essay Example for Free

The Russian civic contend EssayThe Russian well-mannered War remains one of the more wild wars in Russias history. Considering the brutal combat that the Russian army faced in the horrid conditions of World War unitary and World War Two, to refer to the Russian Civil War as a more brutal endeavor is a grand claim however, when one considers the cost of lives and the tearing apart of the homeland, it is not a stretch to lay that claim on the shoulders of the Civil War. What complicates the red involvement in the Russian Civil War is the fact that the Bolsheviks prescribed to a state central authoritarian system of g overnment. In opposite words, the Bolsheviks believed that the state was the center of all authority and that it should be comprised of one political party. In short, the Bolsheviks were fighting for totalitarianism. gratuitous to say, this does not paint a picture of a faction that had universal appeal among the public. In arrange to centralize any problems wi th competing political factions, the Bolsheviks outlawed other political parties. Such an action shows that there was thinkable belief that perhaps the Bolsheviks ability to maintain popularity in the hearts and minds of the population was on shaky ground.By firmly establishing an authoritarian rule, the Bolsheviks were endure as opposed to earnning both on the battlefield and in the court of public opinion. Therein lays the central problem if the Bolsheviks were to win the Civil War, they would need to defeat the coarse volume of people in the nation who were greatly opposed to the system of government that the Bolsheviks represented. In winning, the get the better of factions would have to be integrated into the Russian auberge and, in some cases, subjugated. Is this really a win or is it the case of the Bolsheviks using military force to impose their rule on a society that did not want them. To a certain degree, the Bolshevik victory was a matter of the party surviving (it would have been dissolved in the face of a loss in the same manner the electrical resistance parties were dissolved by the Bolsheviks) and the ability to rule was performed by subjugating all opposition and suppressing any pretext of license or democratic socialism. (Keep in mind, socialism could have been instituted without totalitarian authoritarianism, but the militaristic approach was the one preferred by the Bolsheviks)When examining the Soviet Union and its place in history, one needs to ask the oral sex as to what was the Soviet Unions legacy. To a great extent, the Soviet Union was a massive failure that squandered the minds and the will of a great people. The Soviet Union was little more than a military-industrial complex that invaded, conquered and occupied nations that despised being under the Soviet sphere of influence. Furthermore, the concept of the utopian left fantasyland was exactly that, a grim fairy tale fantasy where over sixty-million people living in natio ns that prescribed to the philosophy of communism died from famine. When it comes to the Bolsheviks success in the Russian Civil war, what was it that the Bolsheviks accomplished other than the governance of a failed military-industrial complex state? To that degree, winning the Russian Civil War was hardly a win in the sense of, say, a former colony winning independence. Ultimately, the survival of the Bolsheviks after the Russian Civil war is hardly celebratory as the eventual establishment of the Stalin regime and the advent of the long and hard Cold War hangs a dark cloud over any perceived victory the Bolsheviks could claim.

Introduction to Environmental Health and Risk Assessment Essay Example for Free

Introduction to environmental Health and Risk Assessment EssayAsbestos is considered a Public health hazard. As such there have been a number of scientific measures adopt to manage this hazard to environmental health and safety. In this discussion the author would advance that the best modal value to manage asbestos is by applying the asbestos code designed for that particular location. It is believed to be safe since it is a code which has been researched prior to its design and m both of the major risk performers were considered. It follows distinct guides such as elimination/ removal (most preferred) closing off/enclosure/sealing engineering controls safe work practices (administrative controls) face-to-face protective equipment (PPE) (Asbestos control measures, 2010). As it pertains to this labor movement the risk management plan to be adopted is the elimination and removal woof which would be discussed in more detail. Justification for the decision In order to justify why it is believed that the elimination and removal option is the best under any circumstances to mange asbestos risks ,the reader must understand what it really does.First the removal has to be conducted by a certified environmentalist who is knowledgeable in the practice and would conduct the physical exhibit according to the environmental heath and safety code pertaining to that procedure. Therefore, it excludes the infiltration of a novice undertaking the risk management technique. Asbestos is a very serious environmental hazard as such any attempts at control must be scientifically monitored. As was previously mentioned these atomic number 18 scientific interventions which are implemented after decades of well evaluated research, environmental data, confederacy health concerns and health outcome data. nvironmental data are reviewed to witness whether people in the community aptitude be exposed to hazardous materials from the NPL facility. (ATSDR, 2009). The removal bou ndaries are carefully defined security signs and appropriate displays are erected for the public to recognize that the environment is being targeted for asbestos removal. This protects the community during the functioning since they would not enter the dangerous boundary zones. It is total untowardumination. Besides the electrical equipment are outside and all appliances which are apply to provide electrical power must be turned off. These tot to the asbestos risk when elimination and removal are done. It cannot be overemphasized that this ensures complete elimination and security after the process is completed. Hence, here is the justification that this is the best option for removing both friable and non friable asbestos. It is highly recommended as a risk management device. How will elimination and removal provide a greater arrive of security system from the inherent risks associated with Asbestos? Obviously, it is irradiation of the risk itself. It is like conducting a root cause analysis whereby the foundation of the factor is upturned to ensure that is has been destroyed completely. Isolation/enclosure/sealing engineering controls safe work practices (administrative controls) personal protective equipment (PPE) (Asbestos control measures, 2010) are all palliative measures. These do not stand the test of while because they act simply as control measures. There is still asbestos in the atmosphere. Of major significance is that the effects of asbestos do not manifest immediately. It takes years. During that time no one knows how effective these control measure might be. There is never a sure way of evaluating their true effectiveness until an entire community becomes ill from this exposure which was supposed to be controlled. Therefore, it is the authors belief that the best ways to avoid any predisposed effects and provide optimum safety is by elimination and removal. An Outline of the selected method used to evaluate results of the option chosen to implement Asbestos risk management. The implementation task in itself offers a process of evaluation which is to determine the presence of asbestos in the air after the elimination process has been completed. This is a scientific evaluation. There are mainly three types of asbestos. Prior to the elimination procedure the environmentalist would have evaluated the types to determine whether it was white (chsorile) blue (crocidolite) or brown (amosite). The Environmental Protective Agency (EPA) has devised a scientific methodology to evaluate asbestos removal. It has been researched and found to be an appropriate measuring instrument. This entails the adoption of an alternative test which will evaluate the removal procedure used to determine how effective it was in estimating how much asbestos was really removed. Precisely, it attempts to remove close to types of asbestos harbored in buildings. The interior of the building is wet, and then demolished without excluding whatever other ty pes of asbestos may be present. nice water is applied to trap any asbestos which might have escaped the initial reatment. This exercise is monitored and the amount of asbestos present in the atmosphere is evaluated. It is usually tested against a previously conducted irradiation treatment. (U. S Environmental Protection Agency. Asbestos Project Plan, 2010) This is a feasible way of evaluating the results of a previously conducted asbestos removal exercise. The environmentalists can in like manner re-measure the asbestos content scientifically. However, this method even evaluates the specific instrument used and just not the degree of substances removed.

Critisism on Curleys Wife Essay Example for Free

Critisism on Curleys Wife Es feel outFor Of Mice and Men is a catastrophe, a tragedy not in the narrow modern sense of a mere sad tarradiddle (though it certainly is that), al star a tragedy in the classic Aristotelian/Shakespeargonan sense of showing humanitys gainment of grandeur through and in spite of defeat. few pot seem to believe that the function of literature is to supply vicarious happy endings, to provide in words a sugary sweetness we would like to provoke but coffin nailnot always get in historical life. To such people, true literary tragedy is distasteful. only the greatest writers and the trump readers admit that literature is not always only mere sugar edulcorate it can some durations be a strong medicine sour perhaps at least(prenominal) to the undisciplined taste but necessary for continued health. Some readers may object to the arrests presentation of execrable class characters, vulgar language, scenes suggestive of improper sexual conduct , and an implied criticism of the societal system. save n whiz of this is presented indecently, or beyond the ordinary norms of contemporary literature. Compared to many modern works, (or to movies and TV) this book is tame indeed.Furthermore, these features are necessary in this book in two ways. First, they are part of the accurate precise reporting of the reality of a particular time and set up and surround. Part of Steinbecks literary point is that this is true to life. As such, the dirty detail are part of Steinbecks dramatizement of the realm of Tragedy, the democratization of the sad world. Tradition exclusivelyy, the subjects of Tragedies run through been Kings and other Great Ones Job, Oedipus, Lear. But Steinbecks point a truly American point is that all men are created equal Tragedy exists even among the lowly of the earth even the least of us even a Lennie or a George has the human potential for tragic nobility. Of Mice and Men is a tragedy in the modern tradi tion of The dark-haired Ape and finale of a Salesman. Second, the grossness is a way of presenting briefly the complex turmoil of life. This book is not stereotype melodrama. It is not a unanalyzableminded book. There are no purely bad people in it. Conversely, there are no purely well-grounded people in it either. All the characters are complex mixtures of good and bad, or rather of bad results from good intentions. They are all in their expertness and in their out manner limit. And they eff in a gross and dirty world. Given their go down in that world, they are not able to achieve much. But they are trying to do the best they can they are trying to be good people and to brook good lives. They have good intentions. They have noble looks. The tragedy is that, especial(a) as the characters are, the world they live in is even more limited it is a world in which the simplest dream of the simplest man poor dumb big Lennie cannot come true. The best laid plans of mice and men gang oft a-glae go oft a-stray, wrote Robert Burns in the poem which provides the books title and its theme. And Steinbecks story shows why The best laid plans go oft astray be come they come in conflict with one another. The simplest good intention simply to stay alive of a simple mouse, a simple pup, a simple young woman, is thwarted by Lennies urge to pet something soft and beautiful. Lennies drive to touch yellowish pink kills the things he loves. But his problem is the same problem that bothers Curley, the Bosss son, the closest thing to a villain in the book. Like Lennie, Curley doesnt live on how to h doddery on to what he finds important his young wife, his status as the Bosss son, his temperament as a man. He loses for each one by trying to hold on likewise tightly. Curleys aim to be a respected husband/boss/man is foiled by his own limited abilities. The similar but simpler aim of Lennie and George to have a weakened place of their own where they can live offa t he fatta the lan is doomed to frustration also by their own limitations and the tragic chain of circumstance and coincidence that ends with Lennie dead by Georges hand. The point, of course, is that they all we all live in a too limited world, a world in which not all our dreams can come true, a world in which we all of us some of the time and some of us all the time are doomed to disappointment. The tragic dilemma is that for our basic humanity, for the goodness of our aims, we all deserve better than we get. But because of our human limitations, by our weaknesses of character, none of us is ever good enough to earn what we deserve. Some philosophers, seeing this dilemma, pronounce profound pessimism for humanity. Some religions promise for this worlds disappointments supernatural intercession and other-worldly compensations. The tragic viewpoint (the view of Shakespeare, the Greek tragedians, the Old Testament Job, and illusion Steinbeck) finds in it the chance for nobility of soul even in the blackest of disappointments, a human can achieve individual greatness. One may be defeated physically but one need not be crushed spiritually. One can remain true to ones dream and true to ones friend. We humans may die, but we can love one another. Friendship. Love. That too is what Of Mice and Men is all about. Lennie and George, disparate types, are, against all good effort, friends. They share a good dream. They love one another. They are too limited, too inarticulate, to know how to say it, but they do show it or rather Steinbeck shows it to us readers. So the book treats the great themes of Dreams and Death and Love with simple powerful clarity. It does so with a classically elegant structure another reason for using the book as a teaching tool it allows a reader especially an untrained or beginning reader of literature to see (or be shown) how structure supports and presents content. Of Mice and Men has the classic piazza/complication/twist/and/resol ution plot structure uncluttered by diversions, distractions, or subplots. There is inevitableness, a starkness that makes the point of the story unavoidable. The story has the classic unities of time and place and action. It begins in a small spot of beautiful nature, a secluded camp in the woods by a rate of flow it moves to the buildings of a California ranch, and ends back in the woods by the stream. The style is simple edify, direct sentences of interpretation and action, direct quotation of the speech of simple people. Few long words, no hard words. The action is simple two poor and vagrant workers, big, dumb Lennie and small, clever George, take jobs at a large ranch. Lennie has devil with the Bosss son, Curley. Lennie accidentally more or less kills Curleys wife. George kills Lennie to save him from the horrors of a lynch mob led by Curley, bent on revenge. The settings are simple in detail, and simply powerfully symbolic. The secluded spot in the woods by the stream is the uncomplicated world of Nature the bunkhouse is the bleak home of hired working(a) men trying to make sense of their lives and gain comfort in a limited environment the barn is the place of working life, of seed and harvest, birth and death the harness room with Crooks bunk symbolizes social constraints the myopic place of our own about which George and Lennie dream and all too vaguely plan is the promised land on earth we all hope for. The characters, too, are simple yet significant. Begin with an individual, and before you know it you find you have created a type, wrote F. Scott Fitzgerald begin with a type, and you find that you have created nothing. Steinbeck begins with individuals clear and sharply crafted characters, a whole set of individuals who are so clearly realized that each without surrendering individuality becomes a type, an archetype, a universal character There is Candy, the old, one-armed worker with no place to go, as useless as his toothless dog there is Carlson, gruffly and deliberately unfeeling, who can coolly kill old Candys antique dog simply because he stinks and he aint no good to you and there is Crooks, the dignified proud and removed but helpless and lonely victim of racial discrimination. There is Slim, calm, reasonable, compassionate, the real leader of men. And there is Curley, the tyrannical but inept Bosss son. The man who could lead well does not have the position the one who has the position and the authority is not a true leader. Curley hides his insecurities behind a mask of macho toughness. His competitive bravado makes him push too far and Lennie, after enduring much, is given permission by George to get him. Lennie in self-protection crushes Curleys fist in his own big hand, crippling Curley somewhat as Candy and Crooks have been crippled by the punitive harshness of life. Curley is also the one man who has a woman. But clearly he does not does not know how to relate to her as a person. She is to him a thing, a possession, a sex-object and a status symbol. For the men, in braggadocio, he flaunts the sexuality of the relationship and yet, out of his own self-doubts he is intensely jealous of the mens awareness of her. The young woman has no name she is merely Curleys wife. She knows she deficiencys and somehow deserves something better than this. I dont like Curley, she says of her husband. She has grandiose ambitions of being a Hollywood star in the pitchers. She is a lost little girl in a world of men whose knowledge of women is largely limited to memories of kind old ladies and rumors of casual prostitution. All these men are afraid of Curleys wife, afraid and aware that her innocent animal spell may lead them into temptation and trouble. In self-protection they avoid her. Only Lennie, in naive goodness, very relates to her as a person to a person. She talks to him. For a little time they share in their aesthetic sense they both admire beauty. Unfortunately, she is too naiv e, and Lennie is too strong and clumsy. In trying at her invitation to pet her lovely hair he is panicked by her quick resistance, and ends by killing her. comely as he had earlier killed a puppy and a mouse. Curleys wife, a naive Romantic, wants love and mettle in a harsh crude Naturalistic world Lennie, big and ignorant, tries to give love. But he is too weak in the mind, too strong in the body. His tenderness is too powerful for weaker, trusting creatures. We readers can identify with Lennie. We sympathize we empathize. We care. We have most of us been in his position not kinda able to cope with the complexities of the world around us, wanting only security, peace, comfort, and something soft and beautiful to pet and love. possibly one reason that this book has evoked controversy and censorious action is that it is so simple and clear and easy to understand and so painful It hurts to read this book. And some people dont like their books to hurt them they want soothing.Bu t great Tragedy is meant to hurt. One neednt subscribe wholly to the Aristotelian doctrine of catharsis by Art to see that one function of literature is to help us deal with the pain of real life by practicing with the vicarious pains of tragic art. Of course Of Mice and Men contains unpleasant attitudes there is brutality, racism, sexism, frugal exploitation. But the book does not advocate them rather it shows that these too-narrow conceptions of human life are part of the cause of human tragedy. They are forces which frustrate human aspiration. Lennie and George have a noble dream. They are personally too limited to make it come true, but they do try. They try to help each other, and they even enlarge their dream to include old one-handed Candy and crippled black Crooks.Theirs is the American Dream that there is somehow, somewhere, sometime, the mishap that we can make our Paradise on earth, that we can have our own self-sufficient little place where we can live off the fat of t he land as peaceful friends. What is sad, what is tragic, what is horrible, is that the Dream may not come true because we are each and all of us too limited, too selfish, too much in conflict with one another. Maybe ever-body in the whole damn world is scared of each other, says Slim. And George expresses the effects of loneliness, Guys that go around alone dont have no fun. After a long time they get mean. They get wantin to fight all the time. What is ennobling in this tragedy of mice and men is the Revelation of a way beyond that loneliness and meanness and fighting, a way to rise above our human limitations deuce men Lennie and George who have nothing else, do have each other. We kinda look after each other. says George. And they do have their Dream. And the Dream is there even in the final defeat. For in the end the one thing George can do for Lennie is to make sure hes happy as he dies. He has Lennie look acrost the river you can almost see the place. And as Lennie says, L ets get that place now, George kills him mercifully. Its a horrible thing to do, and George knows that. And we know that. But in this limited world in this limited way it is all that George can do for his friend. And he does it.That is the horror and the nobility which together make up Tragedy. The Tragic pattern closes. There is a sense of completeness, of both defeat and satisfaction. In Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck has shown us something about the pain of living in a complex human world and created something beautiful from it. In true great literature the pain of flavor is transmuted into the beauty of Art. The book is worth reading for a glimpse of that beauty and worth teaching as a way to show others how such beauty works.
